Introduction

Learning Beyond the Curriculum

At Bengal Fine Arts College, learning extends far beyond the classroom and the prescribed curriculum. The College consciously nurtures an academic environment where students regularly engage with the living world of art through exhibitions, workshops, seminars, camps, and national-level art initiatives.

Students consistently participate in major cultural and artistic platforms across the country. Their involvement in “Vikasit Bharat Ke Rang, Kala Ke Sang”, a nationwide art campaign organised by the Central Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) as part of Seva Parv and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (2025), reflects this commitment. Through painting competitions and workshops held across multiple cities, students actively contributed to the artistic representation of India’s cultural heritage and developmental vision, reinforcing the idea of art as a tool for nation-building.

Participation in events such as the Camel Art Camp & Exhibition (Konark Chapter 2025–26) and regular Creative Drawing and Painting Workshops provides students with immersive, hands-on experiences that sharpen their technical skills while exposing them to diverse artistic practices and peer learning environments. These engagements are integral to students’ academic life and form a continuous process of artistic growth.

The College also ensures students’ intellectual exposure through seminars such as the Seminar on Curatorial Aspects – Students’ Biennale, organised as part of the Kochi Muziris Biennale 2025–26. Such interactions introduce students to contemporary curatorial practices, critical discourse, and the professional dimensions of the art world, preparing them for future artistic and academic pursuits.

In addition, Bengal Fine Arts College regularly organises workshops in Creative Painting, Drawing, and Batik, along with seminars on art-related themes, enabling students to explore techniques, materials, and concepts beyond their routine coursework.

A defining feature of the College’s academic culture is its annual art exhibition at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. This exhibition is a regular and anticipated event where students professionally present their works to a wider audience, gaining invaluable exposure, confidence, and real-world experience.

Through these sustained and structured activities, Bengal Fine Arts College ensures that learning remains dynamic, experiential, and deeply connected to the evolving landscape of contemporary art—making co-curricular engagement an essential and regular part of every student’s artistic journey.
